Bayamo, Cuba, Oct 20 (Prensa Latina) The Wax Museum of this city, the only one of its kind in Cuba, will unveil a life-size image of musician Adalberto Alvarez, the "Caballero del Son".

As a genuine exponent of the island’s Son traditions, there is no better moment for the unveiling of the sculpture of the renowned orchestra conductor than this October 20, Cuban Culture Day.

The work is a tribute of the so-called Monument City to the musical legacy of the author of songs such as “A Bayamo en coche”, “Bailando casino”, “Y qué tú quieres que te den” or “Dale como e'”, who died in 2021, at the age of 72, a victim of complications associated to Covid-19.

The statue is modeled in polychrome wax, and the authors are the artists Rafael Barrios Madrigal and his son Rafael Barrios Milán.

The latter expressed to the newspaper Granma that, at the request of the musician’s relatives, the image of the face corresponding to approximately when he was 60 years old, will be revealed.

The work was also completed with clothes, shoes and other objects belonging to the artist, such as the güiro, a musical instrument that distinguished him in each of his performances.

With this ceremony, the Wax Museum of Cuba expands its permanent collection containing sculptures of cultural and sports personalities, including Polo Montañez, Compay Segundo, Benny Moré and Italian Fabio Di Celmo.
