Havana 2023 Mozart Festival kicks off in Cuba

Cultural institutions located in Havana's Historic Center will open their doors on Sunday through October 7 to welcome the Havana 2023 Mozart Festival, an event that pays tribute to the legacy of Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

This new edition will feature an important presence of Spanish performers and will include in its program, along with the usual music of Mozart, a great number of repertoires of peninsular authors.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, October 1, at 8:00 p.m., local time, at the San Felipe Neri Chapel, with the performance of Spanish pianist Javier Negrin and the Havana Mozartiano Lyceum Orchestra who will be playing Mozart´s and Spanish-Cuban composer Julian Orbon´s pieces.

It is enriching and inspires me a lot to visit Havana, It is a great honor to me to play in Cuba,” said Spanish pianist Javier Negrin who will be playing tribute to pianist Alicia de Larrocha on October 3. On October 4 the Spanish group Harmonía del Parnàs will be playing featuring the Havana Exaudi Choir at the S.M.I. Cathedral of Havana.

In addition to these activities, the closing concert is scheduled for October 7 at 6:00 p.m. local time at the Catholic Minor Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, in order to enjoy the performance of clarinetist José E. Rodríguez and the Lyceum Mozartiano Orchestra.

On October 4, young Cubans Ramsés Campos and Malva Rodríguez will feature Dutchwoman Alexandra Kaptein in a show celebrating the 29th anniversary of the Catholic Minor Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi.

The event is organized by the Office of the Historian of Havana, the Lyceum Mozartiano and the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation.
