Cuba announces winners of the country's highest literary awards

The Cuban Letras Cubanas publishing house and the Cuban Book Institute announced the winners of the Alejo Carpentier and Nicolas Guillen 2024 awards, the highest literary recognitions granted in the country.

According to the Cuban Book Institute on its Facebook profile, the decision was made after several months of work and recognizes literary works in the genres of novels, short stories, essays and poetry.

The Alejo Carpentier 2024 awards went to El cuerpo audiovisual(The Audiovisual Body), by Juan Antonio Garcia Borrero, in the Essay category; Cielo raso (Satin Sky), by Lazaro Zamora Jo (Novel Prize), and Reo de cuaresma (Lenten Prisoner), by Rafael de Aguila Borges (Short Story Prize).

In addition to the prize, in the Short Story section, the jury decided to award a mention, which went to the work Las dos mitades("The Two Halves"), by Miguel Terry Valdes.

Nicolas Guillen Poetry Award was granted to the work Cartas de la plaga (Letters of the Plague), by Roberto Jose Mendez Martinez.

Cuban Book Institute sent congratulations to all the winners.
